Well Zeke had a lapse in his recovery. I don't know why but suddenly he quit responding to the meds. So back to the Pet Vet he went to spend the night and have extensive bloodwork and x-rays.
All his blood tests came out fine but the new x-rays showed up problems. The Doc x-rayed his good foot to compare with the other and as we learned already he did have 3 small fractures it seems that have/are All fusing together. This is where we think the infection keeps reoccurring. Surgery is an option but that would involve pins and things and he would have a good recovery by letting nature take it's course since it's already started. He's always going to have problems with it more than likely. He's on different meds and we are trying to keep him off of it as much as possible.
The funny thing is this though. He's such a ham when I'm around and will hold his little paw up completely off the floor and out kind of. Like he wants me to get a good look. But when I'm not around the Doc and staff says he was putting some weight on it.
Mama's little baby. I think he does it just for the Treats cause it's only natural I feel so sorry for him and want to give him something to make him feel better..

Thunder in the Mist
Recently we opened up new pasture for the horses. The second day we turned them out on it I had to coax them along and show them where to go.
After grain I called them out of the paddock and had them follow me to the path that led to their new green dream land. We neared the opening to the path and they suddenly realized where they were going. Their ears perked up and they excitedly trotted off for a day of munching.
It was very early in the morning and had rained most of the night. The air was crisp and the mist enveloped everything. I couldn't see them anymore in the fog and knowing they had found their way I turned to go back to the house. I got just a few steps away when I heard the Thunder. They were in a full gallop heading to the open pasture. I couldn't see them but I could hear their hooves pound the earth and could just picture their heads and tails high, ears perked, nostrils flaring, mane flowing, taken to the wind. I stopped and was waiting and watching for them to make the clearing on the top of the hill where the fog parted and then there they were, just as I had pictured them. Snorting and prancing for just a moment then they settled in to eat the tender wet grass.
As I turned to go home all was quiet again. Not a sound except for an occassional early bird song and the tree frogs. I also heard 3 distinctive snorts of contentment.

Update on Zeke
Zeke responded to the medications he was given almost immediately. I was so worried. It's only natural when one of Mama's babies is sick. He's fast on the road to recovery though. His limp went away almost overnight and he acts like he feels much better. He not only got his Pet Treats that night but is getting them twice a day, with his meds hidden in them. *smile*. He just thinks he's been one special boy and I'm sure he also hopes All the special attention never ends.

Speaking of Zeke
He had to go to the Vet today. I don't care how many Dog Treats you have if he knew that truck ride was going to turn into a trip to the Vet you couldn't have gotten him in. Every time he goes there someone is poking him, sticking him, squeezing him or cutting something off. (he hasn't been the same for the Vet since the neuter job). This time though was for his sore little paw. I noticed him limping and within just a couple of days he could hardly put it on the floor. There's some swelling in the joint, the ankle I suppose you'd call it and his temp was Really high. The first thing the Vet did was test him for Lyme disease. Turns out that Lyme Disease can hiberante for an extrodinary amount of time then surface. He was all clear for that though. The Dr. doesn't think it's a break, nothing felt broken and if it is a fracture there's nothing really you can do but keep him off of it as much as possible and let it heal. A cast isn't a good option. Zeke has been loaded up meds and I have to keep an eye on him to make sure it doesn't get any worse. Seems that Lyme Disease also can fool the test sometimes so one of the meds is actually a treatment for that just to be on the safe side.
Keep my little buddy in your thoughts and send him healing wishes. I'm going to give him an special All Natural Treat tonight for all his troubles today.

They just love him to pieces
~The cats love to waller on Sam like he's an old rug and sometimes he can be a grouchy old cuss. But he allows them their brief moment then sniffs their butt and gently sends them on their way. He has some of the most tender and gentle qualities about him.

Zeke ~ The Border Collie
~The thing about Zeke.Zeke is my Border Collie. I think I put it once that he was completely nutty, neurotic and deliriously happy. He's soooo attached to me. All of my animals are. The ol' man says that I need brake lights on my butt 'cause if I stopped real fast they'd all have their noses up my rear end because they stick so close to me. I have a little procession. *smile* But Zeke, Oh My GoD! and he stares at you so intensely with those one and a half blue eyes of his. He spooks some people with the way he looks at you. For those of you that have never had the experience of a Border Collie or the likes, They can be way intense dogs.
